Lynda's Picture Perfect "Discovery" Theme

Picture Perfect "Discovery" Theme

I often wonder what the horses are thinking --- and they do think.  I have seen it over and over.  This photo was taken this week.  Sometimes we re-do or add to our obstacle training course for the horses.  This spring I used the tractor and dug a small shallow ditch that we can fill with water.  The dirt was piled on the north side for a small embankment.  Little Joe was showing his stubborn side but yet curious side as he discovers this new obstacle.  And yes, I finally convinced Little Joe to get his feet wet!
But he still needs more practice.

Picture Perfect ~ week 6 ~ winter wonderland

hosted by Heather

I had another photo in mind as I really didn't want to get out in the cold and the snow but the wind wasn't blowing so I bundled up & braved the elements.  We got 5-6 inches of snow yesterday.  Russ was on the tractor clearing paths for the mares April and Diamond as the area behind the tree row doesn't see much sun and takes forever to defrost, making it difficult to walk over the frozen mud/snow mixture.

My photo is Diamond looking out over her Winter Wonderland -- the pasture covered in a blanket of fresh white snow void of horse tracks as the mares were kept in the corral during the storm.

Lynda's Rockin' Heart Ranch Picture Perfect: Winter Contest Week 5

Picture Perfect Winter Competition Week 5 ~ Under Construction

hosted by Cheri

Diamond is not impressed with the demolition of the barn.
***
But before the construction of the new can begin,
the old must come down.

Untitled-1 copy

Diamond was a good girl and did not panic as I insisted she watch part of the demolition of the old shed & feed room.  She was nervous but handled her emotions quite well. She watched a worker pile the old tin.  The wind was blowing, it was noisy, and lots going on.   Proud that some of the drama is leaving the "Drama Queen" as she matures.
The contractor said we should have a new shed and feed room by the end of next week, unless bad weather prevents work.  We'd like some moisture even if it postpones the barn construction.

Lynda's Rockin' Heart Ranch Picture Perfect: Winter Contest Week 4

Picture Perfect Winter 2013 Week Four "Nostalgic" Theme hosted by Gator

Untitled-1
I knew what photo I wanted, but could I find it was the question.  Dug through a file box and Bingo!  Found it.  Scanned the photo and opened into Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 to remove another horse in the background, enhance the black & white photo, crop and frame and place on a background as if in an album with black pages as it once was.
Once in a while back then I would take some black and white photos.  Not sure what camera.  Don't remember when I bought the Canon AE-1 but this might have been the camera.  It was manufactured between 1976 (the year my daughter was born) and 1984 so probably was the camera (and I still have it).
I'm just happy to have found the photo of Sherry and Randy.  I bought Randy at age 6 when my daughter was just a baby.  He was sold at age 21 to a family with a little girl and a baby boy.  He helped raise those children and also taught several beginners to ride in the Pony Club.  He died in 2002 and is buried under a tree overlooking their arena.  I was sent a shadow box, a lock of his mane in a hand beaded ornament, a brass name plate with Randy Zan 1971 - 2002 and the institutions to add my favorite Randy memories.
The older my horse Jake gets, the more he reminds me of Randy.  I have even on occasions, let Nostalgic take over and have called him Randy.
And yes, my daughter still has horses.  This year she is again hauling trying to win a world championship in the National Cutting Horse Association.  She left this week for Arizona for a show circuit.
