When Multiply Contacts
Become Real Friends

June
2010 I met Karen in real life. We had been Multiply contacts for
awhile. She and two others made the long trip from the Houston, Texas
area to Pole Canyon Ranch to ride and enjoy our part of the world. This
is the 3rd year these three have come back for more riding and just
enjoying one another. Last year another couple came and this year two
more ladies joined the group but the other couple was in the middle of
moving across country and couldn't make it. Lasting friends through
Multiply and our love of horses.
We are already looking forward to the next trail ride.
Friends forever through Multiply.

For this week, I challenge you to take a shot that isn't easily recognizable. Rather than titling it or telling us what it is in the blog post, let us see if we can guess. Post the answer in your own comments section, as the first comment, so we can scroll down once we've given up trying to guess and find out what you've presented.

Time
has been rather short this weekend for computer fun things so I am
reposting a photo I did for Images and Words. This photo just keeps
popping into my head each time I think about this theme. It was taken
last October at Pole Canyon Ranch. We had several really nice days
trail riding, just Russ and I and the horses and some days with
friends. It was great. Definitely one of my favorite things.
Photo Info:
Camera: Canon Power Shot A1200 HD (pocket sized point & shoot)
Date: October 25, 2011
Place: Pole Canyon Ranch in Texas
Circumstance: I'm riding Diamond, Russ riding Colt and leading Jake. We were giving Doc and Diamond experience on the trail but still had good ole reliable Jake along just in case we needed him.

Introduction to Digital Photography

Introduction to Digital Photography

Russ
had a Sony Cybershot camera that he showed me how to use. It was my
first introduction to digital photography. Love at first use. I
literally wore that camera out! It was so much fun taking photos, down
loading to the computer and not worrying about film and getting them
developed and waiting for the results. A number of digital cameras
later, I'm still having fun with digital photography.
Photo: June 2003, Russ Fajita, the dam of our sorrel gelding Doc. Had a blast riding and exploring that ranch that Russ owned when we first met. I''m scared of heights and him riding my flat land horse along the edge of those caprocks really bothered me but they did great. She acted as if she was born in that rough territory. I left the date on the photo. It was a small size. Edited on Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 to bring out some of the colors and details of the older photo.

3. grave; sober; solemn; serious.
4. without excess, luxury, or ease; simple; limited; severe.
5. severely simple; without ornament:
Bleak,
spartan, stark, lack of ornament or adornment and of a feeling of
comfort or warmth. Austere usually implies a purposeful avoidance of
luxury or ease: simple, stripped-down, austere surroundings, bleak, a
sense of forbidding coldness, dreary, implies stern discipline and
rigorous, even harsh, avoidance of all that is not strictly functional,
a sense of grimness and desolation.

Really
like to bake so family get together gives me that opportunity. I don't
bake that often as Russ and I don't need those sweets and we really
like them. Always eat too much when those goodies are around. The
cookies had been made earlier in the week. All I had to do was slice
and bake. Made 2 types using that old fashioned oatmeal cookie recipe
that can be found in my recipe section. One batch made with Reeces
peanut butter chips and chocolate chips; the other with Andes baking
chips. 2 large zip lock bags of cookies.
Three
pies were made. Chocolate meringue, coconut meringue, and lemon
meringue. The chocolate and the coconut are cooling and ready for
meringue. I ruined the crust for the chocolate pie. It broke when I
took it out of the oven so I bought a chocolate gram cracker crust.
Don't really like that or the chocolate pie was going to be chocolate
pudding.
Really pleased with the meringue on the coconut pie.

But wasn't pleased with the meringue on the chocolate. Added that it pulled away from the crust, transporting it, almost destroyed the meringue. Didn't look too good but it was ate.
Surprised
that my old blender still works. Very seldom use it but like a Timex,
just keeps on ticking. The blue mixer was a gift when daughter was
about 9 years old and she'll be 36 her next birthday. Love that mixer.
I kept that dishwasher running plus things drying in the drain rack. I really like the new washer I got last year when we did the remodel.
Was given some Christmas $$$. I placed an order with High Country Gardens out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. They had a sale on holiday items and free shipping. Usually don't order nick knacks on line as I like to see & touch in person but this place as a good reputation so I took a chance. Pleased with all the order. Also waiting for a Cabellas order that is due Tuesday. Silk long handles & turtle necks for layering.

A new wooden hummer sits on a limb next to some wooden chili peppers and small pots.
Ordered
3 sets of the crystal stars. Nice and heavy with pretty ribbon
hangers. Hung them on the ice cycle lights in the kitchen window.
This
little tin star is neat. Has some weight to it and a trap door to
insert lights. Placed a couple of red lights that on the kitchen
cabinet under the window inside. Liking it and wasn't too sure of this
order. I guess I got the last red one, when I tried to order 3 instead
of one, said wasn't available.
Also ordered what is called an illuminarie butterfly feeder, will glow in the dark after absorbing light. Came with a nice long brass rod but for now it will just sit in a house plant until spring rolls around.

Friday night we went into the little community of Happy for the alumni vs the high school basketball team. Lots of fun but serious playing going on.

Grandson plays on the high school team and is the one who is making this shot.

Lots of visiting and children playing while the basketball game goes on. These little girls were sure having a fun time.
Saturday
was mostly spent with the family. Lunch was a Santa Fe style soup.
Russ and I made sausage stuffed jalapenos and 2 types of deviled eggs.
One regular and one spicy. The day was spent with different activities
and night meal of pork loin and all sorts of things including the pies
and other things we contributed to the meal. Wasn't a shortage of food
or activities or catching up on family goings on. I learned a new
game. Chicken Foot. I had grown up with dominoes and playing 42.
First half of the game I was leading for a long time but gradually
loosing by the time the game was ending. The guys had a hot poker game
going on in the dining room and some were just observers. New Years weekend is Russ' side of the family "Christmas" exchange time. I got lots of neat things and here are 3 of them. A tote bag with pockets for photos, an etched bottle with lights, and a tile with some of my photos on it.

As promised here are some doll dresses and bull dog dresses photos.

One
of the things I look forward to each year is my calender from a couple
of the grand-kids. Gotta have my calender so I can see the month at a
glance from computer chair. This year the calender has photos from
places here in Texas. January is the post office in Luckenbach, TX. Working on the blog, doing laundry and a few other things. Actually doing this blog to rest the knee and then back to work getting things done before my trip Tuesday.

Today is Rawhide day on Encore Westerns. We have a free trial month of several stations and have sure enjoyed watching the old westerns that I grew up watching on TV. Russ said they did some filming for Rawhide out where he used to live in New Mexico.
Here at the Rockin' Heart we're wishing each of you a happy and prosperous New Year.
Well maybe everyone is not feeling like wishing you a happy new year. Looks as if Doc might have celebrated a little too much!

Lots going on today, first it's freezing fog so not going out side; second I'm watching the NCHA cutting horse Futurity live web cast from Fort Worth while doing other things such as this blog and I really should be doing my book work, which I'm behind ---- AGAIN! So started looking through my files and this was the first photo I liked so going with it. That is the first photo with a horse in it to keep up with the dare made by a couple of folks to always use a horse. Actually was looking for a couple of other photos but time was a factor so here it is:
Photo was taken 9/10/2011 at 12:17 PM with a Nikon D7000. I was trying to get a good close up photo of this bit that I was trying on Jake. Info about the photo when I opened the file in Windows Explorer:
4928 x 3264 1/500 sec. ISO 250 f/5.6
Opened the photo into Adobe Photoshop Elements and made a copy of the original and did minor adjustments and then copies of this copy.
Original Photo, slight adjustments:

Copy #2 Enlarged 25% & Cropped

Copy #3 enlarged 33%, cropped

Copy #4 enlarged 50% & cropped

Copy #5 enlarged 67% and cropped

Copy #6 enlarged 100% and cropped

I hope I followed the guide lines for this Picture Perfect. Not sure if I did, since I used a photo in my files and I'm not certain I was using the macro setting but I was wanting the close up so maybe I did.
Decided to do another photo with the Canon A1200 HD point & shoot on the macro setting. Info from the photo: f/4, ISO 180, 0Step, 11mm, max aperture 4, no flash.
