(Honorable Mention Picture Perfect Week # 3 Contest)
The Dictionary defines conserve as: "1. to keep from being damaged, lost, or wasted." During the severe droughts of the 1950's the government put into action a program called CRP or Conversation Reserve Program. Farmers were paid to put farm land back into pasture to help prevent the soil from being blown away. A similar program is still in effect today. This is the web site if you would like details for the soil and water conversation assistance program: http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/swca/swcafact.html
While the program did help prevent erosion, many rural farm houses were abandoned and the people moved on, often to town in search of a job. We are surrounded on two sides by large fields of CRP grass lands. This old homestead is across the road from us. We have only lived out here since October of '04 so we don't know the story as to why this place was left to rot away in the middle of a CRP field.

Welcome back everyone. It was amazing getting glimpses into your thoughts, imaginations and lives this week. Everyone posted possibly the best photos I've seen since Heather started Picture Perfect. It was nearly impossible for me to choose the top ten even with ten Honorable Mentions it was hard to narrow the selection down. Thank you to each and every one of you who participated this week. The talent and thought that went into your entries takes my breath away.
I give you the choices for this weeks top ten:
