Cattle Call by Eddie Arnold

Photo taken summer 2006 in the New Mexico mountains with an old Sony CyberShot, my first digital camera (actually a hand me down).  Framed and signed on Picnic.com.  Words and the actual song if interested:
"Cattle Call"
[Yodels]

The cattle are prowlin'

The coyotes are howlin'
Way out where the doggies roam
Where the spurs are a jinglin'
And the cowboy is singin'
His lonesome cattle call

[Yodels]

He rides in the sun

'Til his days work is done,
And he rounds up the cattle each fall

[Yodels]

Singing his cattle call

For hours he would ride

On the range far and wide
When the night winds blows up like smoke
His heart is a feather
In all kinds of weather
He sings his cattle call

[Yodels]

He's browned as a fairy

From riding the prairie
And he sings with an old western drawl

[Yodels]

Singin' his cattle call

Picture Perfect ~ week 6 ~ Collective
Dug deep into my digital collection of photos looking for inspiration and found this photo taken with an old Sony Cybershot.  This camera (not mine) was the start of my addiction to the collective gathering of digital photos by the 1000's in many files now stored on an external hard drive.

I have chosen the adjective form of the word collective:
1.  formed by collectionCollection of cattle is called a herd
2. forming a whole; combined: The gathering of this collection of cattle is called a roundup
3.  of or characteristic of a group of individuals taken togetherThe characteristic of this group of cattle is called shipping.

Shipping from the Lawson Place

Photo was taken in eastern New Mexico during fall shipping.  The date that was cloned out said Oct. 2, 2003 but I don't know if the date feature was correct.
Slight color correction, the large orange date stamp cloned out and added my water mark on Photoshop Elements.

Picture Perfect Kaleidoscope Theme "Multi Colored"

I wanted to do something different but still use keep sakes, memories, etc that I already had as decor for our tiny guest room.  I finished the window decor this afternoon. Still might rearrange or move some of the old Multi-Colored felt hats but basically it will stay this way.  And if you look you will see several horses --- just happen not to be real.

Now are you curious as to what the rest of the room looks like (or the rest of my house) -- bet you won't find another like it.  And the next time I take a photo of this room ----- I'll straighten the lamp shade!
PPF ~ Kaleidoscope ~ # 5 Red or Orange

Did you know that a palomino horse hair coat is genetic from a "red" or chestnut/sorrel base?  Diamond's dam is a sorrel (red) and her sire is a smutty Buckskin.  I don't understand all the genetic color things about horses but that is what I read.  How many other red or orange things can you find in this photo?

Time is short this week, even thought about re-posting yesterday's green as there are red roses & other red things in it.  Have a great week everyone and a safe Memorial Weekend coming up.

Photo was taken recently of hubby replacing panels for welded pipe fence in the arena.  April the bay and Diamond the palomino are in their corral.  To view other Kaleidoscope entries with a different color each day: PPF ~ Kaleidoscope ~ # 5 Red or Orange

Picture Perfect ~ Kaleidoscope #3 ~ Gray

Gray Horses Aren't Born Gray.

Frosty was born February 18, 2008 and this photo was taken 5/7/2008.  She was born a mousy brown and quickly changed to a bright sorrel (red) like her dam.  The first signs that she would turn gray like her sire and his dam was the white hairs around her eyes.  Frosty is a rose gray, taking the color of her dam as the base.

Birth photo 2/18/2008

In December of 2008 she was getting lots more gray hair.  Gray horses change at different rates.  Some change early in their life and others a bit later.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray_%28horse%29 is a link to read about gray horse colors but since Firefox has decided not to let me post the link that works, will have to copy and paste if interested.  My Picture Perfect entry for the letter F is a photo of Frosty: http://mrsrh.multiply.com/journal/item/495 that shows gray hair mixed with her sorrel body color base.

Sunday I was invited to go trail riding with Amie.  This little miniature donkey has the run of the place and is wearing a fly mask to protect his face from those pesky critters.  It is trimmed in purple fleece.  Amie's horse Alice is visiting with the donkey.

Life is Just Like Riding Broncs - It's a Battle

Well I'll gladly take ten seconds in the saddle
For a lifetime of watching from the stands
[ guitar ]
His stetson was faded and battered and worn
The stubble of his beard showed flex of gray
His limp was severe cause a leg had been torn by a bronc in his rodeo days
He hung round the chutes while we waited to mount
With a vague look of longing in his eyes
He spoke very few words but he made 'em count
He was broken forgotten but wise
He said life's is just like ridin' broncs its a battle
Then he rolled a cigarette with shaky hands
Son I'll gladly take ten seconds in the saddle
For a lifetime of watching from the stands
[ guitar ]
I noticed the cigarette burns on his vest
And the Rembrandt of a dream left in his eyes
The boys said he could have well been the best
Had not fate cheated him of his prize
Oh but i learned a lesson that i never known
From this guy who'd been busted so bad
It's better to ride even if you get throwed
Than to wind up just wishing you had
He said life's is just like...
Yes I'll gladly take ten seconds in the saddle
For a lifetime of watching from the stands

Picture Perfect "Tools of the Trade" Theme
Host: the Gator
It's Mother's Day Sunday so as a Mom my tools of that trade are so varied it is hard to narrow that trade down to a single photo so I chose the most current tool of the Mom trade -- my computer watching my daughter show her two cutting horses in Utah at the NCHA Western Nationals.  Since a trip to Ogden from the Texas panhandle was not an option.  The next best things was watching live viva a web cam from the show.  This photo is a print screen photo, pasted into word, printed and then scanned into an old photo program and then saved as a jpeg.  Opened into Picnic.com and framed.  I know there must be an easier way but this is what I know.  I did set my camera in front of the computer and filmed the live web cast and that came out great.  Just don't have time to edit and post that too.  The photos I took with camera just weren't that clear so I went with the print screne.

The Tools of the "Mom" Trade

And now the good news.  She qualified both horses for the finals tomorrow.  There was a 4 way tied for second and two of those were her horses!  Scoring a 216 on both.  A 217 was first and a 216.5 was 2nd.   70 entries in her class.  Finals will be tomorrow.  Again live broadcast.  If you would like to watch some cutting horses, here's the link:  http://www.horseshowwebcasts.com/shows/2011/25452/client.shtml

I hope my entry brings a smile to your face as you think about that hard to reach itchy spot.

At first I thought I would post a photo of branding a horse either old fashioned hot brand method or the newer freeze brand, then of our tack that Russ has custom made and personalized with out brand, initials, or name,  and then thought of the "branding" event at the WRCA Ranch Rodeo Finals where the brand is chalk and a timed event.  But I changed my mind.
Cowboys and Cowgirls are very much an individual, each with their own style, choice of clothing, equipment, and horse.
This colt belongs to our friend Dywan, a real working ranch cowgirl.  Besides me personalizing the photo with our brand and my name, can you find how many items Dywan has personalized in this photo I took 7/20/2010 with my Nikon D-50.  Cropped and enlarged in Photoshop and framed with Picnik.com
